Are my Sealskinz socks leaking?Updated 9 months ago
With regards to the function of the socks, they are constructed as a three-layer product. They have an outer layer that can get wet (this will absorb water), an inner layer, and a waterproof membrane sandwiched in between. It is this membrane that provides a barrier to water passing through the outer layer and into the socks and keeps your feet dry.
All the products will keep water out up to the sewn level of the cuff (this can be seen if the socks are turned down) and they perform in the same manner as a wellington/gumboot.
If they are immersed in water above this level, they will become wet.
Our socks are not designed to be worn in combination with another waterproof product such as boots, shoes or gaitors. These will interfere with the performance and cause a build-up of moisture next to the skin.
Wearing synthetic liner socks underneath our waterproof products will also cause a build up of moisture inside the socks. Any liner socks should be constructed of merino wool or silk as these work best.
Are there any visible holes in your socks? Sometimes holes can be caused by friction (wear and tear), toenails or accidental damage (such as a naughty puppy!)
